Bernie networking at the State Library

kicking back at the end of a busy week Bernie and I headed to SLV for the launch of The Summer Read.

A lovely speech by the state librarian and a very touching piece about last years Summer Read sent from Rome by Kate Holden...in her letter she mentioned the memorable night in the park on a 40 degree night last summer. She noted that it was one of the warmest audiences she had ever had..at this stage Bernie elbowed me and I nearly started laughing.

...but wait the laughter was to be saved for the very humourous speech by Summer Read champion Spicks and Specks star Alan Brough....it appears he would like to be a librarian, this must have excited Bernie because she soon went on a promotions and networking frenzy....

First there was the chat with the official photographer about how we could get hold of the photos she took of us, then a chat with the Read More girls from Moreland...and then...wait for it the big moment...

She dragged Alan Brough over to get his photo taken with us and the Read More girls .................go Bernie, what next!!

Greek culture with Stelios and his mate!

wow what a lovely afternoon of relaxation and culture we had at Altona today..melodic Greek music that took me back to the days I spent on Naxos, the beautiful Greek Island! Suzanne requested Zorba and the musos obliged., bosoki and guitar in total unison.. a pity she didn't lead off on the dance!

....anyway enough of that..well done on an excellent job to Anne P for organising this engaging cultural event and going to great lengths to publicize it (I think she even snuk over to Greece)!

It was terrific having Soula there...because she used the power of language to make them fill in the evaluation form, join the library and even borrow some materials...wow!

Check out next weeks Leader and Mail newspapers for some professional type photos of the event, there should be at least one photo published, as they took at least 100 each!!!!

Bring it on...lets have music in the library every month!!

Here it is... live Greek music and 34 more photos on Leader website!

Cruzin in the library with Rod and Ali

what a fantastic night we had Cruzin in the library with Rod!

There they were, the Hot Rodders cruising into the carpark, carefully moving the witches hats, taking photos, talking the talk and patting the rods...

and did they create stacks of interest on a warm summer/spring evening ... people relaxing in the park getting off their deck chairs and wandering over to check out 'Show and Shine'.

Once we dragged them into the library, the 45 men and 11 women were all ears listening to the great stories of the silver hot rod which inspired a life time of interest, the fastest hot rod in the world, built by Rod, sold in the USA and now featuring in many movies!

By the way who was that cute little kid in pink..is she part of the Hot Rod community as well or maybe related to the real Rod??

Well done Ali..a great initiative..what else do you have up your sleeve??
